I just really want a colour e-reader for comics

Boox have a color Android e-reader too, and I run Tachiyomi on it, and it’s awesome reading manga and comics on it. And because it’s Android, I can still use Kindle and other platforms to get legit books, without having to buy or invest into a single proprietary e-reader platform.

Not at all. There are quite a few cheap e-readers out there. I’ve had the pleasure of owning a few, and I’m afraid I never wished Android would run on one.

      • I made the mistake of buying an Android one (Icarus) years back…despite the eink display, the battery life was barely better than a phone due to the overhead of running the OS. Plus, most Android apps were unusable because they depend on scrolling and high refresh rates.

As someone that has longed for an e-inked e-reader in the shape and size of a phone, this is nearly perfect for me. All other e-readers are just too big to put in my purse, or annoying to hold (I got small hands) I just wish they didn’t bother adding a camera on there back. What’s the point in that?

Since it runs Android, my Moon+ Reader Pro app should run on it right? F-Droid as well? Cause if so, this is going on my Christmas list.

I believe their other readers work with moon+ reader and other apps. I was debating getting one of the color ones and if you can deal with the slow refresh rate of eink and some apps not being optimized with page flashes etc, then it’s a good choice. Also interested in this as a beach “phone” to be able to easily bring it when it’s super bright out and have a readable display.

They’re barely available in the US. A lot of times it’s through resellers like goodereader.

There’s one that is only partially translated to English, so even after changing the options, there are still menu options that show up in Chinese.

I guess my point is, if AliExpress ships to the Philippines, that’s about as good as you’ll find anywhere.

This looks legitimately nice and I kind of want one. Small e-reader device.

That could be a nice, mostly distraction-free “phone” for work to read my emails, check my calendar, send chat, etc

I have WiFi access in the office and at home, good enough for work.

Nice! But it won’t be a full fledged phone replacement for most people because of using the phone (such as for GPS/music/podcasts) in the car where there is no wifi access.

Even that could work if you plan accordingly. Cache your Spotify music & podcast, download map regions for offline use with Organic Maps, etc.

True, I haven’t thought of that. It would work perfectly for light use. You would have to forgo social media when not in range of wifi though (such as while on the bus) and phone calls without wifi (assuming you will use Google Voice, TextNow, or something similar) though. Some people are willing to make that sacrifice, but I think the majority of people will see this as a major turn-off.
